Ryan and I have just begun the process of raising support to become foreign missionaries. God has blessed us with the burden of reaching the nations with the Gospel, and we will begin to fulfill that call by working alongside our Haitian brothers and sisters in Cap-Haitien, Haiti. With the support of members of our church, we have been led to One Mission Society, which is an organization that seeks to fulfill the Great Commission by spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
One Mission Society (OMS) is a
111-year-old faith-based organization serving in 57 countries around the
world. By God’s grace, One Mission Society unites, inspires, and equips
Christians to make disciples of Jesus Christ, multiplying dynamic communities
of believers around the world. This is accomplished by intentional
evangelism, church planting, training national leaders, and strategic
partnerships. One Mission Society seeks to see God glorified as it
continues to fulfill the Great Commission.
Since the two of us went on our first
missions trip to Haiti through OMS last summer, our hearts have been greatly
impacted by this impoverished country. This is a small country of just over
ten million people who are still in great need of spiritual response after the
devastating earthquake in 2010. Although many Haitians identify themselves as
“Christian,” Haiti has been referred to as “90% Catholic and 100% Voodoo.”
Unfortunately, spiritual leadership training is restricted because of the mere
poverty of churches in the country. Many pastors have very little training,
and some are barely literate. With that said, there are about twenty Bible
colleges in Haiti. These seminaries educate Haitians in the area of Biblical
studies so that they can take their knowledge to further the Gospel among the
country through ministry and evangelism. We feel the calling to become a part
of these great works that are happening in Haiti in the name of our Lord and
Savior.
We will be heading to the mission field of
the Emmaus Biblical Seminary (EBS) in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, in the beginning of
2014. By then, Ryan will have graduated from Midwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary with a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies and Christian Ministry
and I will have graduated from Washburn University with a bachelor’s degree in
Finance and Management. Ryan has the incredible opportunity to become a
teacher at EBS. As for myself, there is a need in the financial department of
the seminary in which I hope to be of assistance to.
Though Ryan and I are willing and ready to
answer our call to missions, we cannot do it without a team of supporters
behind us. We would love for you to consider being a part of our team. There
are two ways in which you can make an investment in our ministry. As we are
sent out to do the work of our God, we need strong prayer support. At the same
time, we are in need of people who are willing to make a financial investment
in our ministry. If you are interested in being a part of our support team,
please pray for us. And if you feel led, you may make a donation online or
through mail to One Mission Society in our name with our account number, which
is 232113.
